Ladakh: 1 soldier martyred, 3 missing as avalanche sweeps Indian Army team at Mount Kun

Officials said on Monday that a party of Indian Army mountaineers were caught in an avalanche on Mount Kun in Ladakh, leaving one soldier dead and three others missing.According to Indian Army sources, a group of roughly 40 soldiers from the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) and the Army Adventure Wing were engaged in routine training exercises on October 8 near Mount Kun in Ladakh. Unfortunately, the group encountered an unanticipated avalanche during their training ascent. "Four of our dedicated personnel were trapped underneath. The mortal remains of one person struck by the avalanche have been recovered," they added.Search and rescue activities are still being conducted to find and rescue more people who are buried behind the enormous snow deposit despite the bad weather and severe snowfall, they added.Further information is awaited.(With agency inputs)
