Israel-Hamas War: CIA director and regional intelligence leaders hold ceasefire talks in Paris

Top officials from the CIA engaged in discussions with intelligence leaders from Egypt, Qatar, and Israel in Paris, exploring the prospects of a potential ceasefire and a subsequent hostage exchange. The meeting included CIA Director William Burns, Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Mossad Chief Dadi Barnea, alongside Israel's Shin Bet Director and Egypt's Intelligence Minister.While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office described the talks as 'constructive,' caution was expressed regarding 'significant gaps' between the negotiating delegations. Follow-up meetings are scheduled for this week, with the Israeli war cabinet set to convene today, as announced by Israeli officials.This development comes shortly after Hamas reportedly rejected a two-month ceasefire deal for the release of remaining hostages. US President Joe Biden dispatched Director Burns to negotiate the release of hostages in conjunction with a ceasefire, according to The Washington Post.President Biden also engaged with Qatar's head of state, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to discuss hostage release efforts. Qatar, pivotal in brokering a previous seven-day ceasefire and hostage release deal in November, continues to play a crucial role in peace talks.The situation involves 136 individuals still unaccounted for since their abduction in Gaza on October 7, following an attack by Hamas. Among them are 19 females and two British-Israeli citizens, with at least 25 presumed dead.The Hamas-controlled health ministry reports that over 26,000 Gazans, including civilians and soldiers, have lost their lives in Israel's military offensive.
