Iran slams US, UK over strikes against Houthis in Yemen

Iran denounced on Sunday the most recent American and British bombings on Yemen, claiming the aim was to "escalate tensions and crises" in the area.

American and British military responded to a spate of attacks by the Iran-backed militia on Red Sea ships on Saturday by launching more strikes against eighteen Houthi targets in Yemen.

"With such attacks, America and Britain seek to escalate tensions and crises in the region, and expand the scope of war and instability," Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said in a statement.

"Certainly, this kind of arbitrary and aggressive military operation, aside from aggravating insecurity and instability in the region, will not achieve anything for these aggressor countries," Kanani added.

Additionally, he denounced Britain and the United States for not acting to "take immediate and effective action" to halt Israel's murderous campaign in Gaza.

According to the Houthis, they are supporting Palestinians in Gaza, which is devastated by conflict, by attacking ships in the Red Sea.

After Hamas launched an unprecedented onslaught on southern Israel on October 7, Israel launched a withering military operation in Gaza.

Although Iran has denied any role in the October 7 attack, it does support Hamas.

Since the start of the conflict, regional tensions have increased dramatically, fueling bloodshed in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen that is supported by Iran.
