Iran says 38 killed, 400 injured in US strikes as Chabahar port tower destroyed

Iran's Health Ministry said on Friday that US strikes carried out across several provinces from late Thursday into early Friday killed at least 38 people and injured more than 400 others, with civilian infrastructure including bridges, power facilities and the maritime control tower at Chabahar's Shahid Kalantari Port among the reported targets. The US, meanwhile, said the operation was aimed at Iranian military capabilities, including a surveillance facility linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to Iran's Health Ministry, the casualties included three women and one person below the age of 18, while 47 injured people remain hospitalised.

Iranian state media Press TV reported that the strikes hit locations in the Hormozgan, Bushehr, Sistan and Baluchestan, Khuzestan and Lorestan provinces.

The ministry said the attacks damaged civilian infrastructure, including bridges, power facilities and the maritime control tower at Shahid Kalantari Port in Chabahar.

Although the control tower was destroyed, the port's berths, cargo-handling facilities and other operational infrastructure remained intact, with no casualties reported at the site, according to Press TV.

US says surveillance tower was part of IRGC network

US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed on Friday that it had "successfully destroyed" the surveillance tower at Iran's Shahid Kalantari Port in Chabahar.

Centcom said the facility was part of a maritime surveillance network used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to monitor commercial shipping in the Gulf of Oman, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian news agency IRNA reported that technical and operational teams had begun assessing the damage, securing the area and reviewing measures to resume port operations. Cargo loading and unloading activities are expected to restart after safety inspections are completed.

Hormozgan among worst-hit provinces

Authorities in Hormozgan province reported extensive damage after several locations, including six bridges in Khamir County, were struck.

The Hormozgan Governor's Office said seven people were killed and nine others injured.

Officials said the attacks disrupted transport links connecting Bandar Abbas, Bandar Khamir and Lar, with emergency teams working to restore movement through alternative routes, Press TV reported.

In Bandar Abbas, Iranian officials said one person was killed and eight others injured after a strike hit a residential area. A railway branch station in the city was also damaged, leaving two people injured, according to provincial authorities cited by Press TV.

Strikes reported in Bushehr, Khuzestan and Lorestan

In Bushehr province, Governor Mohammad Mozaffari said two strikes were reported within hours, injuring one person.

In Khuzestan province, Deputy Governor Valiollah Hayati said US forces targeted areas around Ahvaz, with authorities assessing the extent of the damage.

Iranian officials had earlier alleged that strikes near Ahvaz forced the temporary evacuation of Shahid Baghaei Hospital, which specialises in cancer treatment.

In Lorestan province, Deputy Governor Saeed Pourali said a strike was reported in the Veysian district of Chegeni County.

US and Iran issue competing accounts

The developments came after US Central Command (Centcom) said it had carried out multiple rounds of strikes against Iran, targeting military capabilities, including coastal surveillance systems, air defence sites, logistics infrastructure and maritime assets.

Iranian authorities accused the United States of targeting civilian infrastructure, while Washington said its operations were intended to 'degrade Iranian military capabilities' and respond to threats against regional security.
