7 Indian workers killed, 9 injured in Dubai road crash, consulate extends support

Seven Indian workers were killed and nine others injured in a road accident in Dubai after a minibus carrying them crashed into a truck that had reportedly stopped in the middle of Emirates Road due to a technical fault, according to local authorities.

Expressing grief over the incident, the Indian Consulate in Dubai said its officials had visited the hospital, met the injured Indians and were working closely with local authorities to provide assistance and support.

"Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Dubai that claimed the lives of several Indian workers. Our officials visited the hospital, met the injured Indians, and are working closely with local authorities to provide all possible assistance and support. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the grieving families during this difficult time," the consulate said in a post on X.

According to an NDTV report, Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said that preliminary investigations found that the truck had come to a sudden halt on Emirates Road because of a technical malfunction.

"The bus driver, who allegedly failed to pay attention and keep a safe distance, then rammed into the truck from behind," Suwaidan was quoted as saying.

"The accident resulted in seven fatalities and nine injuries, including five serious and four moderate injuries. All injured were transported to the hospital for treatment," he added.

Authorities said experts from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and determine the exact cause of the crash.

"Traffic patrols regulated traffic flow, secured the site, and facilitated the access of rescue vehicles. Work teams also removed the damaged truck and bus to restore normal traffic flow," Suwaidan said.

The investigation into the accident is underway.
