Indian embassy, Kuwait Airways tie up to boost India flights as demand from diaspora surges
The initiative is expected to support Kuwait’s growing tourism sector by improving accessibility and reducing travel time. Attractions such as the Grand Mosque and Souk Al-Mubarakiya, along with luxury properties like The Ritz-Carlton Kuwait, are likely to draw more Indian visitors

Kuwait Airways has partnered with the Indian Embassy in Kuwait to strengthen travel links between the two countries, aiming to boost tourism, trade, and passenger connectivity.
The collaboration is expected to ease travel for passengers from key Indian cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Kochi, offering smoother access to Kuwait City and onward connections to Europe and other global destinations.
Talks focus on expanding air links
The partnership follows a high-level meeting between Kuwait Airways Chairman Abdulmohsen Salem Al-Fagaan and Indian Ambassador Paramita Tripathi, with Acting CEO Abdulwahab Al-Shatti and senior officials in attendance.
Discussions centred on expanding passenger and cargo operations to strengthen aviation ties. Kuwait Airways currently operates direct flights from Kuwait International Airport to Mumbai, Delhi, and Kochi using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Both sides explored increasing flight frequencies and adding new routes to secondary Indian cities. Enhancing air cargo capacity was also highlighted as a priority to facilitate faster movement of goods such as textiles, spices, and dates.
Tourism and trade set to gain
The initiative is expected to support Kuwait’s growing tourism sector by improving accessibility and reducing travel time. Attractions such as the Grand Mosque and Souk Al-Mubarakiya, along with luxury properties like The Ritz-Carlton Kuwait, are likely to draw more Indian visitors.
Officials also indicated plans for streamlined visa processes and joint promotional campaigns to position Kuwait as a key stopover destination. The strong Indian diaspora in Kuwait, numbering over one million, continues to play a vital role in sustaining travel demand.
Fleet expansion and future outlook
Kuwait Airways’ expansion strategy is supported by its modern fleet, with plans to introduce the Airbus A350 to improve efficiency and passenger experience.
The airline aims to expand its network by up to 20 per cent by 2027, with India as a key market. While challenges such as airport slot constraints remain, both sides expressed confidence in overcoming them through continued cooperation.
The partnership is expected to deepen economic and cultural ties, offering travellers more seamless journeys while strengthening bilateral trade and tourism between the two countries.
