Four-month-old Palestinian baby dies after medical transfer delayed at Israeli checkpoint

A four-month-old Palestinian boy died after an Israeli military checkpoint west of Ramallah delayed his transfer for urgent medical treatment, Palestinian officials said, as violence continued across the occupied West Bank and Gaza.

On the same day, Israeli forces shot dead a 16-year-old in the West Bank, while an Israeli drone strike in Gaza City killed at least two people, according to health authorities, reported Al Jazeera.

Laila Ghannam, the governor of Ramallah and el-Bireh, said on Facebook that doctors at the Arab Specialised Hospital confirmed the death of Ahmad Marouf Zeid on Sunday evening after Israeli forces prevented his transfer to the hospital for more than an hour despite his critical medical condition.

Ghannam said Israeli soldiers fired tear gas to stop Palestinians attempting to pass through the checkpoint at the entrance to the village of Deir Ammar.

She described the death of Ahmad, the family's only son, as "a stain on the conscience of humanity" and said it reflected an Israeli policy aimed at restricting Palestinians' freedom of movement and access to healthcare, in violation of fundamental rights.

Teenager killed in West Bank

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Israeli forces also shot dead a 16-year-old boy in the Qalandiya refugee camp near Ramallah on Sunday.

The ministry added that two other boys, both aged 14, were wounded in the same incident.

It said that since October 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,087 Palestinians in the West Bank amid escalating violence following the start of Israel's war on Gaza, according to the outlet.

Casualties reported in Gaza

In Gaza City, health officials said an Israeli drone struck a crowd of Palestinians on Omar al-Mukhtar Street on Sunday, killing at least two people and wounding several others.

Gaza's Health Ministry said Israeli army violations of the "ceasefire" with Hamas, which came into effect in October, have killed 1,066 people and wounded 3,445 others.

The ministry added that the overall death toll since October 2023 had risen to 73,090, with 173,550 people injured.
