Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Sullivan held 'candid, fruitful' talks on bilateral ties, handling issues

With an aim to further hold continuous dialogue by the leaders, China's foreign ministry said on Saturday that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had "candid, substantive and fruitful strategic communication" with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

This meeting was built on a pledge by the leaders of the world’s two largest economies to deepen dialogue. The topics between the countries include "maintain regular contact to provide strategic guidance for bilateral relations ... and make good use of the current strategic communication channels."

The two officials during the Bangkok meeting Friday and Saturday agreed to properly handle important and sensitive issues in US-China relations, the ministry said, and for Presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden to "maintain regular contact to provide strategic guidance for bilateral relations ... and make good use of the current strategic communication channels."

Sullivan, who reports directly to Biden, met with Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Deputy Prime Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Ankara on Friday, according to a statement from the Thai foreign ministry. Both sides discussed cooperation on security, clean energy, trade, and the crisis in Myanmar during the meeting.
