Captured on camera: Man battles shark to escape attack in Florida’s St Andrews Bay near naval base
A shark attack near a marina in Panama City, Florida, was caught on camera, with reports indicating the victim suffered severe injuries and lost one arm

What begins as a seemingly ordinary scene in the water quickly descends into chaos in a disturbing video now circulating online. The footage, reportedly recorded near Naval Base Marina in St Andrews Bay, Panama City, Florida, captures the moments before bystanders react in horror to a shark attack.
According to information shared online, the victim was an employee of a nearby naval base who was swimming close to the marina when the attack occurred.
Victim reportedly suffers severe injuries
Unverified reports circulating on X claim the swimmer lost one arm during the attack and suffered significant injuries to the other. Posts sharing updates on the incident said medical teams were attempting to save the victim's remaining injured hand.
Authorities had not immediately released official details regarding the extent of the injuries or the condition of the victim.
The three-second clip quickly spread across social media, prompting reactions from users expressing shock and concern.
Many described the incident as frightening, with one user commenting, "That's terrifying."
Another user questioned whether warning flags had been displayed in the area, writing, "Weren’t there purple flags up warning of hazardous marine life? Shark attacks are still statistically rare, but swimming in marinas/bays (especially near fishing activity) carries higher risk from species like bulls. Thoughts with the victim and his family, hoping for a strong recovery."
In a separate shark attack earlier this week, a 35-year-old diver died after being bitten by a suspected 4.5m (14.8ft) shark off the coast of Western Australia. The man, whose identity has not been released, was spearfishing with family near Michaelmas Island, south-east of Perth, when the attack occurred at 11:25 local time (03:25 GMT) on Saturday, police said.
He was brought back to shore by boat, where paramedics attempted to save him but were unable to revive him
