American babies born this year from July 2 to receive Social Security cards featuring 'Freedom 250' logo

Babies born in the US between July 2 and the end of 2026 will receive a special-edition Social Security card featuring the Freedom 250 logo, marking the country's 250th anniversary, the Trump administration has announced.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) said the commemorative cards will be issued only to newborns during the six months ending December 31. The agency clarified that replacement or duplicate cards requested during that time will not include the Freedom 250 branding.

“The next generation of Americans born during this historic year will receive limited-edition Social Security cards bearing the Freedom 250 logo. Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, we are strengthening Social Security, improving service, and building an SSA to serve Americans today and in the future,” Social Security Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano said in a statement.

The initiative comes as the United States prepares for celebrations marking its semiquincentennial, with events taking place across the country in the lead-up to the anniversary weekend.

In Washington, scheduled festivities include the Great American State Fair and Saturday's Salute to America fireworks display. Other anniversary events organised under the Freedom 250 banner include the Sail250 celebration, the Patriot Games planned for later this year, and the Rededicate 250 prayer jubilee held in May.

Freedom 250 was established by the Trump administration last year to coordinate programs commemorating the nation's 250th birthday. It operates separately from America250, the congressionally authorised organisation created a decade ago to oversee nationwide semiquincentennial celebrations.

The group has faced criticism from some who argue that it has introduced partisan politics into what they believe should be nonpartisan national commemorations. Freedom 250, however, describes itself as a nonpartisan organisation and says its events are open to everyone.

The commemorative Social Security cards are the latest government-issued documents to incorporate Trump administration branding. In April, the State Department announced that Americans applying for passports through the Washington Passport Agency could choose to receive one featuring an image of President Trump on the inside cover.
