14 killed as aircraft crashes near Juba in South Sudan

A plane crashed southwest of Juba on Monday, killing all 14 people on board, according to a Reuters report, citing South Sudan’s civil aviation authority.

The aircraft, a Cessna 208 Caravan operated by CityLink Aviation, lost communication while flying from Yei to Juba International Airport, according to an official statement.

It said the plane took off at 09:15 local time and lost contact at 09:43. There were 13 passengers and a pilot on board, including two Kenyan nationals and 12 South Sudanese nationals.

Preliminary reports suggest the aircraft may have crashed due to poor weather conditions, particularly low visibility, the aviation authority added.
