But Jagan was far too ambitious, and pressed on despite YSR's reservations to Jagan entering politics, especially at a time when he was CM. YSR finally gave in.After his father's death in a helicopter crash in September 2009, his relations with the Congress Party got increasingly strained on the issue of succession of the CM's post, which Sonia Gandhi denied him. He quit the party in November 2010 and in February 2011, he took over the YSR Congress, till now a party only on paper. He contested the the 2011 Lok Sabha elections from Kadapa and won by a sizable margin. In August 2011, the AP high court ordered a full-fledged probe into his assets based on a case filed by Shankar Rao, a minister in the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh and several other leaders from the rival Telugu Desam Party. It is alleged that under his fathers leadership of the state JAgan's businesses profited heavily. The Business Standard reported in December 2010:
From a small-time realtor in Bangalore, he emerged as a high-profile industrialist with interests in power, infrastructure, mining and cement, besides media... With patronage from his doting father, Jagan’s declared earnings increased from Rs 9.19 lakh in 2003-04 to Rs 77.40 crore in 2009. He paid advance tax of Rs 84 crore for the first six months of 2010-11, against tax of Rs 6.72 crore for 2009-10. In April, Jagan is reported to have received over Rs 3,000 crore through the sale of his stake in Bharathi Cement Corporation.
