Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025: Where to watch Galaxy S25 series launch event and what to expect

Samsung's highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event is just around the corner, set for January 22 at 1 PM ET in San Jose, California. The tech giant is expected to reveal its "Next Big Thing"—likely a new lineup of smartphones and other innovative devices. 

Audiences in India can watch the livestream of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked launch event on January 22 from 11:30PM, on their own website Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, their own official YouTube channel, and other social media platforms. 

While there’s been a fair amount of speculation about what Samsung will unveil, the details remain shrouded in mystery. 

That said, we can confidently expect a new generation of Galaxy S smartphones, AI-driven enhancements, and perhaps a glimpse at some exciting new wearables and augmented reality (AR) devices.

For years, Samsung has used its first Unpacked event of the year to showcase its flagship Galaxy S smartphones, and this time will likely be no different. We expect the Galaxy S25 series to be front and centre, continuing Samsung’s trend of launching multiple tiers—standard, Plus, and Ultra models. The latest rumours, backed by certifications and leaks, suggest that Samsung’s new phones will include minor design updates and cutting-edge AI features, setting the stage for a bold new chapter in the Galaxy lineup.

Galaxy S25 Ultra and other smartphones in the series

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be the star of Samsung's January event and along with it, we will also see the standard Galaxy S25, and the S25+. While we can expect some minor design tweaks, such as rounded corners, flatter edges, and thinner bezels, these devices are not expected to feature drastic aesthetic changes. The S25 and S25+ are expected to retain their 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch displays, while the S25 Ultra will sport a slightly larger 6.9-inch screen.

Performance-wise, the Galaxy S25 series is almost guaranteed to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor in the US market, with Samsung’s commitment to AI functionality being a key focus. This new chip will be geared towards generative AI, which aligns with the increasing emphasis on AI-powered features in Samsung’s smartphones. This means the S25 devices will likely offer improved processing power, enhanced battery efficiency, and superior performance for a wide range of applications, from gaming to multitasking.

When it comes to the camera, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to feature a 200MP main sensor, with some upgrades to its ultra-wide sensor, now boasting a 50MP resolution. There will also be a 10MP 3x zoom and a 50MP 5x zoom. Additionally, Samsung will introduce the Qi2 wireless charging standard, although the charging system may not feature built-in magnets, as the phones will reportedly require a separate case for the full magnetic charging experience.

Additionally, there have been rumours circulating about a potential "Galaxy S25 Slim" model. If it materialises, this model will likely feature a slimmer design compared to the S25, possibly aiming to compete with similar offerings from other brands, such as Apple’s more compact versions. While not officially confirmed, the slim variant could join the S25 lineup later in the year.

AI-driven enhancements are also expected, with rumours suggesting that the Galaxy S25 series will feature an AI agent capable of offering personalised clothing and transport suggestions. These AI features are expected to be integrated into Samsung’s One UI 7, built on Android 15, which promises to deliver a more personalised and intuitive user experience.

An updated Galaxy AI

One of the most significant advancements in the Galaxy S25 series will likely be the integration of refreshed Galaxy AI features. Samsung has been pushing its AI-driven capabilities for a few years now, and the S25 series is expected to take things to the next level. The new devices will reportedly come equipped with an AI platform designed to understand natural language and interact with users through speech, text, and images.

The upcoming One UI 7 will act as Samsung’s first fully integrated AI platform, ensuring that all Galaxy devices become true AI companions. This means users will experience more seamless interactions with their phones, whether they're asking for recommendations, controlling smart home devices, or even performing complex tasks. Expect longer battery life, improved screen quality, and better overall device performance, all thanks to AI optimisations.

The Galaxy S25 devices are also expected to support Samsung’s broader AI ecosystem, which could include new smart home devices and apps designed to take advantage of the AI platform. Samsung is likely to focus on creating a more cohesive and interconnected experience for users across their smartphones, wearables, and other smart devices.

Galaxy Ring 2, and AR devices

In addition to the flagship smartphones, Samsung is rumoured to introduce some exciting new wearable tech, including the Galaxy Ring 2 and augmented reality (AR) glasses. The Galaxy Ring 2, expected to build on the success of the original model, will reportedly come with updated sensors and enhanced AI features to improve the accuracy of health and fitness tracking. It is also expected to offer better battery life than its predecessor, possibly lasting up to seven days.

Samsung is also expected to make a significant leap in the AR space, with new AR glasses that may be unveiled at the event. These glasses, which are rumoured to resemble regular prescription eyewear, will likely feature Google’s Gemini AI and could offer a range of immersive experiences. While these AR glasses are still in development, the teaser during the Unpacked event could give us a glimpse into the future of augmented reality.

Furthermore, Samsung’s partnership with Google and Qualcomm on Android XR (extended reality) devices is expected to come to fruition in 2025, with a focus on lightweight, ergonomic designs and high-quality displays. The company is also developing a Project Moohan XR headset, which could rival Apple’s Vision Pro by offering multi-modal input, passthrough video, and a state-of-the-art display.
