Reddit user claims Samsung Galaxy S25 FE exploded during overnight charge – Here's what we know so far

A Reddit user recently shared the ordeal of her Samsung Galaxy S25 FE allegedly catching fire while charging overnight as she slept. According to the post, the phone had been left charging overnight when the incident occurred. The user claimed the device was placed on a mattress, with no objects that could have trapped heat inside the chassis was covering it.

The Reddit post further revealed that the Galaxy S25 FE was charging using the original cable included in the box. However, the device was connected to a third-party 20W USB charger, as Samsung no longer includes charging bricks with its smartphones.

A report from Android Authority claimed that the device was being used with a leather case and was also kept near coins. The user described the frightening incident, saying she was asleep with her eight-year-old child when she heard repeated popping noises before noticing sparks and fragments coming from the phone.

She also mentioned experiencing unusual heating whenever the phone was put on charge. Photos shared on Reddit reportedly showed smoke damage and the remains of the burned device. The situation became severe enough that emergency services had to be contacted to help manage the smoke and safely remove the damaged phone.

The user said she had already contacted Samsung and received a support ticket number, but claimed the company had not yet followed up on the issue. The incident currently appears to be isolated and is among only a small number of similar cases reported online this year involving recent Samsung Galaxy smartphones. No widespread issue affecting the entire lineup has been identified so far.

Previous incidents

This marks the third similar incident reported this year. Earlier reports also claimed that a Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus and a Samsung Galaxy S24 had caught fire. In one of the earlier cases, Samsung reportedly stated that an external force had ruptured the battery pack, though the affected family disagreed with the explanation. In the latest case, the user said she received a support ticket number from Samsung but had not heard back from the company.

It is important to ensure that smartphones have proper ventilation while charging and are not placed in conditions that trap heat. Users should also keep metal objects away from charging cables and avoid using overly thick wrap-style cases, as they can retain heat within the device.
