The account was restored with the follower count reset to zero. most of the followers were restored a little while later. Dorsey tweeted out an echo of his historic first tweet, modified to reflect the circumstances. A clear explanation was not given for the suspension, but Dorsey claimed the account was suspended because of an internal mistake.https://twitter.com/jack/status/801270269184647168TechCrunch calls it an "apt piece of symbolism" that the account of the CEO was suspended, following 10 years of a poor track record of protecting its users and reducing the abuse on the platform. The suspension led to celebrations by alt-right accounts, a loosely organised group with far right beliefs, according to a report in Gizmodo. Twitter has been cracking down on alt-right accounts and has suspended several accounts associated with the movement.[caption id="attachment_349109" align="aligncenter" width="640"]Image: bakedalaska Image: bakedalaska[/caption]Twitter suspends accounts for many reasons, including when the accounts are hacked. This has led to speculation on if the Dorsey's account was indeed hacked. The most obvious suspects for such a hack is Ourmine, which has compromised several high profile social media accounts. OurMine has previously hacked Dorsey's Twitter account. However, the spare of alt-right related suspensions have made some users speculate an attack from another source.https://twitter.com/Rambobiggs/status/801255045450842113The hacking angle is just speculation, and there is no evidence that Dorsey's Twitter account was compromised in this instance. Unless Twitter or Dorsey provides more information, the best explanation right now is that it was a mistake by Twitter. The account was restored in under thirty minutes.
