Twitter beta-testers get a taste of the revamped Android app

It looks like Twitter’s Beta experiment on Android is already bearing fruits. Less than two weeks after Twitter announced a beta testing group on Google’s OS, a whole new revamped interface is coming to Twitter for Android.

Christened Twitter 5.0, the application has undergone a major revamp that drastically changes the look and feel of the application. The old, tabbed style of layout is out and a new, sliding user interface is in for the offering for Android users. Of course, you can still swipe to get to change tabs like you do in the Twitter for Android application right now; Twitter isn’t going to alienate existing users with a whole new way of navigation.

Sticking with trends that are in vogue with the current crop of applications, Twitter has added a left-hand sliding menu as well. This left panel will be translucent and will let you head on to any tab of your choice right from it. Surprise, surprise! There’s a new Notifications tab as well. We’re guessing it will replace the “Connect” tab completely on the first-party Twitter application.

Twitter also put up a blog post to explain how it experiments with various features before making them official and rolling it out to everyone, especially over mobile applications on Android and iOS. This confirms the wide-spread notion that Twitter is working on testing a handful of features at any moment. Of course, it sticks by the ones that make the cut, so if you thought the blue-line was going anywhere, think again.

A whole new UI to the Twitter app seems like a great follow up to the news that Twitter has “confidentially” filed for an IPO. Valued at around $10 billion, the company might be going public in the next three months, if all goes well.
