Tim Cook confirms that Apple is working on software for self-driving cars

Putting to bed all rumours of Apple designing a self-driving car, Apple CEO Tim Cook in an interview said that the company is focusing on "automated systems" to power a driverless car.Cook in an interview with Bloomberg Television said, “Autonomy is something that’s incredibly exciting for us, but we’ll see where it will take us. We’re not really saying from a product point of view what we’ll do, but we’re being straightforward that it’s a core technology we view as very important.” The CEO went on further to say, “We sort of see it as the mother of all AI (Artificial Intelligence) projects. It’s probably one of the most difficult A.I. projects actually to work on.”Apple who had been working on the front of producing a car under their name, a project better known as Project Titan, saw a major shift last year with the Cupertino giant recalibrating its resources. The company's efforts were then directed to working on an autonomous system. Primarily though there wasn't any confirmation as to whether Project Titan had been abandoned. Cook has never before outlined Apple’s plans publicly, though reports have surfaced in recent months that confirm Apple’s efforts.Veteran Bob Mansfield, the man responsible the engineering efforts behind the iMac, iPad and the MacBook Air had been given the reins of the 'Project Titan' team in 2016. While Cook had been silent on the development it was earlier reported that Apple secured a permit from the California Department of Motor Vehicles in April to test three self-driving vehicles.
