Sony Xperia Tablet Z officially launched in India for Rs 46,990

Sony’s water and dust-resistant Xperia Tablet Z has been officially launched in India for Rs 46,990. Last week, the tablet had gone on pre-order on Flipkart for Rs 44,990 and the pre-order listing has not been removed. So if you are looking to buy the Tablet Z, you can sign up for the pre-order and get a Rs 2,000 discount over the official price and a free leather case. The official price seems too much to us and comes close to Apple iPad territory.

The 10.1-inch Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-running tablet’s is just 6.9 mm in depth, which Sony claims makes it the thinnest in its category. Sony has managed to keep the thickness low despite the full HD display and the aforementioned waterproof and dustproof body. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, the same processor that’s in the Xperia Z smartphone. In India, the 3G plus Wi-Fi variant has been launched, with no plans announced for a Wi-Fi only model.

Now launched in India

The 8 megapixel rear camera features an Exmor R sensor and is capable of very good shots. The 2 megapixel front-facing camera sounds good enough for self-shots and video chatting. The tablet comes with Sony's S-Force Front Surround 3D, while Sony's Clear Audio+ mode and the two built-in speakers help the tablet deliver amazing sound no matter how it is held, claims Sony. The Xperia Tablet Z also offers a microSD card slot for up to 64GB of expandable storage.

It includes Sony's Near Field Communication (NFC) One-Touch functions, which allow users to transfer content among compatible devices, including audio, video and images. NFC also lets you programme tags to trigger pre-assigned activity when they come in contact with the phone. In addition, Sony is hoping that the Universal IR Remote, which allows users to control their TVs and other Sony devices, will make the tablet more attractive for home entertainment purposes.
