Sony set to launch the Sony Tablet S by early September

Sony officially revealed a couple of tablets a few months back codenamed the S1 and S2. There were teaser videos being dropped over the course of the months, after the announcement. However, there was no official word on the availability of these tablets. Now, according to a report by Engadget, Sony is set to officially announce the Sony Tablet S, codenamed S1, by the first fortnight of September 2011.

The Sony Tablet S will reportedly feature a 9.4-inch screen that has a resolution of 1024 x 768. We already knew that it would feature Android 3.1 aka Honeycomb, but now there are indications that this tablet could be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich, once Google launches it officially. This PlayStation tablet will feature an IR blaster allowing it to control all devices in one’s home via a network. The Sony Tablet S will be able to throw media to other DLNA compatible hardware whether it is manufactured by Sony or not. The cameras featured on this tablet include a 3MP resolution for the front and a 5MP shooter at the back. It is reported that the screen would feature TruBlack technology allowing for better colours with less glare.

Apart from this, the Sony Tablet S will come preloaded with Sony software such as services for music, books and movies. Preinstalled in the Tablet S is Sony’s PlayStation Suite, which includes a PlayStation Store that is loaded with games for Android-based tablets and smartphones. There is no official word on pricing for this slate, but it was reported earlier that it would be sold for Rs. 27,394 ($599) making it a competitive price in the over populated tablet market. More details would surely emerge once Sony makes an official announcement about the Tablet S and S2.
