Sony might announce a smartphone with a bezel-less display at the IFA Berlin: Report

Sony might launch a bezel-less smartphone at IFA event in Berlin this year. According to a post on Chinese social media website Weibo, (first reported by Android Authority) Sony might launch it's first bezel-less device at the annual consumer electronics convention. The Japanese electronics giant has already scheduled a pre-IFA press conference to be held on 31 August, which is why the new information makes more sense.[caption id="attachment_386789" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image: Weibo via Android Authority[/caption]The information can be validated by the announcement made by Japan Display Inc (JDI). JDI has announced a full-on mass production of 'Full Active' QHD displays, ones that could be used by Sony on its next smartphone. JDI is in a joint venture with Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi and provides display to other smartphone makers as well. But since Sony is the a part of the team, it could have better access to using these displays on its own smartphones first. According to the report the phone is expected to have a 6-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio that should bring it in line with recent flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the LG G6.Since JDI has started producing these new narrow displays, Sony might come with a bezel-less display on its next phone. Sony has not changed the design of its Xperia phones for a long time, which currently includes plenty of bezel both above and below the display. If Sony does take the leap it will change the design of its coming smartphone and set it apart from previous offerings. Sony recently launched the Sony Xperia XZ Premium smartphone in India. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 835 processor and  has been priced at Rs 59,990 in India. The key features include a 4K display and a brand-new Motion Eye Sensor that is capable of recording video in super slow motion at 960 fps.
