Snapchat is inviting artists to create AR-based lenses to feature in its app: Report

In a bid to give a boost to creators, Snapchat is now inviting artists to make AR-based lenses besides the existing ones.[caption id="attachment_4028449" align="alignleft" width="380"] Snapchat. Reuters.[/caption]According to Mashable, dubbed as the 'Creator Boosts' program, Snapchat is giving the creators community a chance to showcase their talent through Snapchat. Here, creators can use the Lens Studio Application and send their work to Snapchat. It is not necessary that it would select their work to feature on Snapchat. But if it is featured, the creator's name will also appear. This would give them a platform to showcase their talent, even though they may not be paid for the effort.The work done by creators would be shown as an AR-based lens if selected by Snapchat.In the past, Snapchat is known to have kept the creators community or social media influencers at bay. Instagram on the other hand gave creators a space to put their designs in Stories. So this is the first time Snapchat would be collaborating with its creators to make these AR-based lenses.As 9to5Mac points out, this step would allow Snapchat to offload the burden to produce new AR-based lenses time and again.The report also points out that Snapchat is going slow and will feature limited creators initially. According to TechCrunch, the new creator-made AR lenses are expected to roll out by the end of March 2018.The Lens Studio was introduced on 14 December 2017. This offered guidelines and templates for users to design these lenses. Once completed, the new designs would then be converted into Snapcode.
