Samsung is due to hold an event today in Berlin where is launch the new Galaxy Note III and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. We take a look at all that we know about the two devices.

Galaxy Note III

The Galaxy Note III is being launched at a time when phablets are the rage. The average screen size for most smartphones is now 5-inches and more. The original Galaxy Note was one of the phablets launched in the market and Samsung's giant phone has proved to be a trend-setter.

As far as India is concerned the specifications are: Samsung Exynos 5420 (Octa-Core) CPU, ARM Mali-T628 MP6 for Graphics and 3 GB RAM. No one is quite sure whether India will get the LTE variant of the phone given that 4G is not widely available here.

The US version of the Galaxy Note III with LTE is device number SM-N9005. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) CPU and Adreno 330 for Graphics along with 3GB RAM.

Other leaked specifications of the Note III include: 1080p display with 5.7 or 6-inch screen, a 13-megapixel camera possibly with optical image stabilization, LTE-A (LTE-Advanced), and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The smartphone is also expected to have better controls for the Stylus pen.

Galaxy Gear smartwatch

The Galaxy Gear smartwatch should be seen as a smart move by Samsung given that its watch will hit the stores before rival Apple's iWatch is even launched. The watch is seen as a companion device to Samsung's Galaxy Android phones and is likely to have Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities, and support for Facebook, Twitter and email.

Recently VentureBeat revealed images (taken from a video) of the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch and key specifications of the device.

The report on VentureBeat said that the device looks like a new wearable fitness device to rival a Nike Fuelband or Fitbit Flex - a smartphone companion rather than a smartphone alternative.

The report adds that the Galaxy Gear has a "high-quality OLED display and square screen", Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi, over 10 hours battery life and "4-megapixel camera built into the strap along with tiny speakers in the clasp."

A report onAmongTechsaid that the watch will have a 2.5 inch OLED touchscreen display with 320320 resolution and a dual-core processor. The report says that there will be 8 and 6 GB models of the watch.
