Samsung Galaxy Note 2 could get official Android 4.3 update soon

Soon after the launch of Android 4.3 back in August, Samsung had confirmed that the new OS would be available for a bunch of its smartphones in the coming months. Earlier reports had suggested that the next device on the list was the Galaxy Note 2 after the Galaxy S4, SamMobile claims a leaked unoffical build is very close to the final build.

The firmware in question, N7100XXUEMK4, reportedly brings the UI of the phablet closer to the one seen on the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3, including the tabbed settings page. The source claims that the company will officially be rolling out the update starting this week. While referring to the test firmware, the source states that the new build is said to be stable and comes with features like Samsung KNOX, which offers secure applications for business use. Another feature, Samsung Wallet, is also part of this build.

The Note 2 could be getting Android 4.3 soon

While other features of the new build are still unknown, it is expected that most of the changes seen in the update for the Galaxy S3 as well as a few new features from the Note 3 for the S Pen will be integrated. Support for the Galaxy Gear is also expected. While this is not an official update, installing the firmware will not void the warranty of the device, according to the source.

Last week, it was reported that Samsung’s service centers already had access to the final build of the update, and one Indian user had also claimed to have gotten his Note 2 updated from a local service center. At the time, the build number of the firmware was said to be N7100XXUEMJ9, and the build date was for October 31. There is still no official word from Samsung about this, though, so it is hard to validate the claims of these reports just yet.
