Razer expected to launch a gaming-centric smartphone at 1 November announcement

Gaming laptop and accessory brand Razer has scheduled an announcement for 1 November, which the company terms as its "biggest unveiling" yet. All hints and clues including the tweet that gave out the news about the announcement hint at a portable gaming device, which could turn out to be gaming-centric smartphone if not a portable gaming console.[caption id="attachment_4134929" align="alignleft" width="380"]

Razer teaser[/caption]While nothing has been confirmed or set in stone, there is a good possibility that gaming accessory and laptop maker could announce its first smartphone.The tweet from the official Razer handle shows a user gaming or viewing content on a device with the word 'Watch' mentioned in the image.It is clear that the emphasis will be on a bigger display on a device with gaming as its sole focus.After Razer acquired smartphone maker Nextbit, earlier this year, there were rumours that Razer could be looking at a gaming-centric smartphone. In June, these rumours were sort of confirmed in a way when Razer CEO Tan Min-liang openly claimed that there is no mobile device or software platform that truly caters to the need of the mobile gamer. He also said, "there is a huge opportunity to disrupt the mobile market."

Clearly, Razer could announce a mobile gaming device or a platform altogether, catering to the needs of a mobile gamer. But how different would such a smartphone or mobile device be in comparison to the smartphone and portable console offerings already available in the existing market? We will know only at the launch on 1 November.
