Opera procures ace Android content library, Handster Inc.

Norway-based software company, Opera, who’re better known for their Opera line of web browsers have launched themselves into the heart of the competition of mobile application stores with the acquisition of Handster Inc.

Norway-based software company, Opera, who’re better known for their Opera line of web browsers have launched themselves into the heart of the competition of mobile application stores with the acquisition of Handster Inc. Based in Northbrook, Illinois, Handster Inc. credits itself for being the assembler of the world’s largest independent content library, and several mobile operators, device manufacturers and applications stores, worldwide go in for its services.A screenshot of Handster

Opera had, only recently launched its Opera Mobile Store, which it had claimed could be used by either of iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Java and Symbian users, among others. Now with Handster in tow, Opera have upped their ante, for sure. Handster, on the other hand claims to offer support for Google Android, Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, netbook and tablet applications.Post the acquisition, Opera will have Handster's white-label app store platform, content management, developer tools, content curation and financial settlement services.
