Nvidia unveils Tegra Note reference tablet platform

Nvidia has unveiled its 7-inch Tegra Note tablet platform through its official blog. The Tegra Note is completely designed by Nvidia, and will be brought to markets by its partners at a starting retail price of $199. This isn’t the first time Nvidia is testing waters in the tablet space, it was earlier working on Tegra 3-based design for low-cost but high-quality tablets also known as the Project Kai. The original Nexus 7 is one such tablet.

The company has now disclosed the reference design and features of a 7-inch Tegra Note. One of its key highlights is the DirectStylus technology that can significantly enhance passive stylus performance. So, one can expect a responsive stylus and a slew of apps to take advantage of it. The DirectStylus Pro Pack offers interchangeable tips to support a variety of writing styles.

The 7-inch tablet is powered by a Tegra 4 SoC featuring quad core Cortex-A15 CPU and 72-core GeForce GPU. It sports an IPS display featuring 1280 x 800 pixels of resolution. Some of the other specifications include 5 megapixel snapper, VGA front-facing camera, 16GB on-board storage and microSD card slot. It will also feature built-in stereo speakers with bass-reflex port.  Nvidia claims that the tablet will bet the latest flavour of the Android OS.

Tegra Note platform unveiled

The tablet will get Nvidia’s PureAudio technology. The Camera Awesome app will deliver exclusive Tegra 4 features like tap-to-track and 100 fps video with slow-motion playback. Nvidia’s TegraZone will provide easy access to Tegra-optimized games and the tablet will support a variety of game controllers for console-class gaming. Nvidia also promises over 10 hours of HD video playback. The company will also bundle a slide cover that flips and bends to act like a kickstand and also cover the tablet. It can be set up in three distinct positions with built-in magnets for added flexibility.

Nvidia’s partners will bring Tegra Note to markets in the next few months. Some of its hardware partners are HP, ASUS, Toshiba and Indian manufacturer Xolo.
