Nikon teases retro, full-frame camera on video

Only weeks after Sony announced its mirrorless a7 and a7R full-frame cameras, Nikon seems to have jumped into the fray. The Japanese camera-maker has teased a full-frame camera of its own in an intriguing ad.

The 30-second trailer is short and tries not to give out any details about the camera itself but only drop certain hints. Peta Pixel reports that the sound of the camera’s solid shutter going click points to a retro camera that will be reminiscent of FM2 and F3 cameras.

Nikon Rumors has managed to get its hands on an image from the upcoming videos in the teaser campaign that gives us a better look at the camera. The series of teasers are called “Nikon – Pure Photography” and are supposed to be about a photographer roaming through Scotland with a camera, according to Nikon Imaging.

Nikon Rumors also showed that the lens in the ad is a new 50mm f1.8G one. It’s a long shot, but rumours are suggesting that the camera will be called Nikon D4H and will cost $3,000 for the body and $3,300 with the 50mm lens. It is also being said that the camera is going to have no video capabilities whatsoever, an EVF/OVF hybrid viewfinder, no AA filter and maybe even a hybrid mechanical shutter.

As per earlier rumours, it looks like the same full-frame 16.2-megapixel full-frame as the D4 will be added to this mystery retro-full-frame too. It should be accompanies by a pentaprism viewfinder, an Expeed 3 processor, a 3.2-inch LCD screen, a native ISO of 100-12,800 and 5.5fps continuous shooting for up to 100 shots. The camera is expected to be announced on November 6.
