Need for Speed: Rivals coming to current-gen consoles on November 19

Electronic Arts has announced that the new game in its long-running Need for Speed franchise, dubbed Need for Speed: Rivals, will be coming out on current-generation consoles on November 19. The company has also announced plans to release the game for the next-gen consoles, namely the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, sometime this year. The current-gen platforms that will be getting the game include the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and PC. As of now, EA hasn't revealed if the Wii U will be getting a version.

Rivals is coming out on current-gen systems in November

Much like the previous game – Most Wanted – Rivals will feature an open world and will have challenges and collectibles. The game is being developed by EA’s new studio, Ghost Games. The new game will have a greater emphasis on cops vs racers. Much like the previous Hot Pursuit games, Rivals will let players play as both racers and cops, moving up the ranks in their respective “faction” and unlocking new customisation options.

The game is being developed using DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine, which is the same one that will power Battlefield 4. The game is also said to offer seamless drop-in, drop-out multiplayer using a new feature called AllDrive. This lets your friends enter your world to take part in activities related to illegal street racing. Customisation options and performance boosts will be unlocked as players earn Speedpoints by progressing through the game and exploring the world. Much like Most Wanted, Rivals will also feature an Autolog, which will let players compete on live leaderboards and issue challenges to one another irrespective of what platform they play on.
