Microsoft enters next phase of Sunrise calendar app shutdown

Microsoft has moved on to the next phase of shutdown of its standalone Sunrise calendar app. The app was acquired by Microsoft last year and the team now has moved on to work on Outlook for iOS and Android.The entire team is working with Outlook and will not support or update Sunrise. The app will be removed from stores in a few days and on August 31, the app will be shut down.Microsoft had announced last year there would be a replacement from the standalone app to an Outlook Mobile app with the built-in calendar. Executives had said at that time that they would leave Sunrise in market until all of its features were integrated into Outlook.Incidentally, the end of August, when the Sunrise app will be shut down, is the timeline that Microsoft has planned for completion of its migration of Outlook.com users to the new version. The rollout has begun for small groups of customers.Microsoft's acquisition of Sunrise was part of a bigger plan to push productivity with its apps. The company had acquired Acompli, the provider of mobile email apps, at that time and had unveiled their touch-optimised universal Office apps for Windows 10 - all of which fit into the plan.
