Man jailed after being publicly shamed on Facebook for not paying his tab

It looks like social networking websites are coming to its own as platforms for public shaming. Not long after a girl started to host pictures of her phone’s alleged thief on Tumblr, a small bar in the US put up a picture of a serial dine-and-dasher that eventually led to his arrest.

Brewer’s Cabinet, a bar in Reno, Nevada put up a picture of Saul Zenaznog, who it accused of running off without paying his tab at the establishment. The post appealed to readers to call up the police if they spotted Zenaznog and then to remind him that his tab at the Brewer’s Cabinet as well as other establishments were waiting to be paid.

“And, while you're at it, you could tell him that visiting restaurants/bars with your friends, running up a huge bill, roughing up servers and then bailing is pretty uncool... pathetic, really. Get a life, man,” the post added. Whether it was the post or the police complaint that the pub lodged, Zenazog’s luck soon ran out and was arrested on Thursday.

He was booked for a probation violation, but not before it was discovered that he had been involved in a similar situation in a Reno restaurant where he left a “nice watch” as collateral for not being able to pay his tab. The Brewer’s Cabinet post ended up getting 403 Likes, 165 Comments and over 800 shares before the law caught up with Zenazog.

Besides publically shaming Zenazog, the owners over at the pub lodged a police complaint, aiding in the timely arrest. This will probably go on to serve as a nice little reminder to anti-social elements who will now no longer just risk being caught by the police but also face some serious humiliation on social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter with higher reach in local areas.
