LG launches world’s first single lens HD projector, CF3D

There are 3D projectors and then there’s the new LG CF3D, which has just grabbed the title of being the world's first Full HD 3D projector to use a single lens. This is not for the faint-hearted, though as it’s priced at a wallet-melting Rs.8 lakh. Clearly, it’s for hardcore enthusiasts or just anyone with a ton of money to spare.

The CF3D is not a DLP or LCD projector; instead, it uses Sony’s SXRD projection technology, which was earlier used in their rear-projection television. The projection system uses LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology, which eliminates the need for mirrors like in a DLP system. Instead, it uses liquid crystal that’s applied directly to the surface of the silicon chip, which is the similar principle to LCD projectors. The end result is, you get the best of both worlds, high contrast and solid black levels and natural colours. It also sports a 120Hz refresh rate for flicker-free viewing. The CF3D is based on their passive 3D technology, which we’ve seen in their TVs and notebooks.
