On the heels of the recent report about how iPhone 6s/6s Plus pre-bookings have missed the expected mark, the latest buzz is around how the new devices received lukewarm response in India.A new Business Standard report now claims that the 'cumulative sales over the weekend are estimated to be around 50,000 across all retail formats'. This is unlike last year, when 55,000 handsets that were shipped into India quickly sold over the weekend. This time around, Apple has reportedly shipped three times that number, but the sales have been sluggish.“The initial rush is typically of die-hard Apple fans, who have come flocking to our stores. Sales are up 30-40 per cent over last year. But the second wave will come after a brief lull, possibly after prices fall,” Alok Gupta, chief executive of The Mobile Store, the Essar Group told the news site.Citing some sources, the report also points out that the iPhone 6s base model price could fall below Rs 60,000 in the next couple of weeks. The hefty price is said to be the reason behind the sluggish sales of the new iPhone. It should be noted that the iPhone 6s is priced 16 percent more than the iPhone 6 price last year. In fact, the new iPhones are sold more expensive in India than any other nation. The iPhone 6s is available in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variants at Rs 62,000, Rs 72,000 and Rs 82,000, respectively. The 6s Plus 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models will be priced at 72,000, Rs 82,000 and Rs 92,000, respectively. You can also read our Tech2Talk where team members discuss how much is too much for Apple's latest iPhones.
