iPhone 5 logic board images leaked

The upcoming iPhone, or the iPhone 5, has had several leaks pertaining to its development leaked, with the last leak believed to be the battery of the sixth generation smartphone from Apple. The latest leak comes courtesy of a Chinese forum, WeiPhone, where the poster has provided snapshots of the logic board of the next iPhone.

The prototype of the logic board surfaces

Commenting on the leaked images of the logic board, Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac states that the part visible in the images could possibly be of a prototype unit as it does not have the typical labeling that is usually found on Apple's devices. A notable absentee from the photographs is the processor, which has not been snapped, giving no insight on which CPU we can find here. The good old rumour mill, however, states that the next generation iPhone will feature a new A5-2 processor and may not be named A6, as was previously believed. This processor is believed to be like that of the A5 processor found on the iPhone 4S but will feature various tweaks.

The report by 9t05Mac adds, “The SIM card slot, the most-centered component on the motherboard, does appear slightly smaller in size compared to the 4/4S, according to iDeviceGuys, iPhone parts specialists that we spoke to. The connection points are also more closely connected. This may or may not point to the new device using the new Nano-SIM format. This repair firm also says that the battery connector apparently has five pins, compared to four on the iPhone 4S.”

The SIM slot occupies the centre of the board

There have been a lot of rumours about the upcoming iPhone being LTE capable, and the report goes on to note that this may most likely be the case as the antenna features more connections than the iPhone 4S. Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new type of display with In-cell technology and the report states that the digitizer connection for the display has also been modified, and may most likely be able to support this new form of display.

The report states, “While we wouldn’t normally put too much faith in an unverified forum post, we looked a bit more into the poster of the photographs. It seems that the same user posted legitimate photos of an iPhone 4S motherboard in August 2011. That is a couple of months prior to the device’s announcement and launch.”

French website NoWhereElse.fr has also made an animated GIF portraying the fact that the logic board lines up with the screws of the back plates that were leaked earlier.

As of now, all of these leaks and rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt as Apple is yet to announce the device. Apple is widely expected to take the wraps off the iPhone 5 at an event to be held on September 12, 2012, and shortly after that, launch the handset on the 21st of the same month.
