iBuyPower's Steam Machine will run on multi-core AMD CPU, Radeon R9 270 GPU

iBuyPower has announced the pricing and specifications for its recently-unveiled Steam Machine. According to The Verge, it will cost $499 (Rs 31,104 approx) when it hits stores some time next year. While it is more expensive than an Xbox One, the specs under the hood are quite impressive.

It will run on a multi-core AMD CPU alongside a discreet Radeon R9 270 graphics card, which is one of the higher end GPUs in AMD's current line-up. It will also have connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. To keep all your games, it will be equipped with a 500GB HDD. The machine will also include the dual-trackpad-based Steam Controller.

That's some powerful hardware

The company has stated that the machine will be bigger than the PlayStation 4 but smaller than the Xbox One. It will also pack in an internal power supply. On the software side of things, it will run on the Linux-based SteamOS. The company had earlier stated that it will be able to run games at 1080p at 60fps.

Back in October, Valve had revealed the hardware specifications for its own Steam Machine prototypes. On the low-end side, users can get their hands on an Intel Core i3 processor and Nvidia’s mid-range GeForce GTX 660 video card. The higher end will give users a considerable fourth-generation Intel Core i7-4770 CPU as well as a GeForce Titan GPU, currently the highest-performing single GPU in the market.

The middle of the range will see users getting the upper mid-range fourth-gen Core i5 CPU and Nvidia’s GTX 780 and GTX 760 GPU units. It should be noted that the GTX 780 is an upper mid-range chip while the other is a high-end one, though not quite in the same league as the Titan. And the company has managed to pack all this in a case that measures 304mm x 314 mm x 74 mm, which is almost the size of an Xbox 360 Slim, except that the Steam Machine is slightly longer and deeper.
