Huawei is planning to launch its annual ‘Mate flagship’ in coming weeks. According to a report by Venture Beat, the company will launch two variants of the Mate 10 at the launch. The code name of the two upcoming devices by Huawei is ‘Alps’, and ‘Blanc’.[caption id="attachment_4003979" align="alignleft" width="380"]Huawei.Reuters. One thing to note here is that ‘Alps’, and ‘Blanc’ may not be the only two devices to launch at the Mate 10 launch event. The report points out that ‘Marcel’, a third device exists along with the two devices.‘Blanc’ is likely to be known as the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. The Mate 10 Pro is expected to pack Kirin 970 with 2K IPS LCD display with an effective resolution of 1440x2880 and 6 GB RAM. The resolution gives us a hint that the device will come with 18:9 aspect ratio which would mean that Mate 10 Pro will sport an edge-to-edge display. It may come with 64 GB RAM or 128 GB storage along with a 4,000 mAh battery.
Mate 10 Pro is also expected to pack a ‘Leica’-branded dual camera system with 12 MP lens and 20 MP lens. Both the lenses will come with f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilisation. The device will also pack an 8 MP camera module on the front. Mate 10 Pro will also boast IP68 rating along with LTE Cat 16 modem and Android Oreo 8.0-based EMUI 6.0.[caption id="attachment_4006313" align="alignnone" width="825"]Image Credit: Huawei Image Credit: Huawei[/caption]Coming to Alps, the device will pack a 2K IPS LCD display with an effective resolution of 2560x1440. This means that the display will support traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. The device is likely to come with Kirin 970 along with 4 GB RAM, LTE Cat 12. The interesting thing is that beyond the change in aspect ratio, RAM and LTE modem, other specifications are similar to that of the Mate 10 Pro.Last but not the least, Huawei had announced the Mate 9, Mate 9 Porsche Design Edition, Mate 9 Lite and Mate 9 Pro last year at the Mate launch event. It is not clear if the company will launch a 2017 refresh for these devices.
