HTC One specs sheet no longer mentions controversial HDR Microphone

HTC has removed mention of HDR microphones from the specs sheet of its much-delayed flagship, One. Last week, Nokia won a preliminary injunction against the use of that particular hardware component by HTC.

The HDR Microphone module was manufactured by STMicroelectronics, exclusively for Nokia, and now the Taiwanese smartphone maker has quietly removed all references to the Nokia-developed component on its website. Surprisingly, HTC’s UK website still has references to the HDR Microphone, but the India website, we can confirm, has edited it out.

No longer HDR

This does raise the possibility that future handsets won’t come with the ST Microelectronics-made microphone module. However, Engadget reports that HTC will be using the remaining supplies of the HDR Microphones till stock runs out. The company said in a statement that it will be using a different microphone design in future production runs of the HTC One. “HTC will transition to improved microphone designs once its inventory of STM microphones is exhausted."

The Taiwanese company has come out strongly against what it calls misleading stories regarding the injunction obtained by Nokia.

“Nokia has NOT obtained an injunction in The Netherlands, or anywhere else, against the HTC One. The Dutch proceedings were brought by Nokia solely against STM. HTC was not sued by Nokia in the Netherlands. The Dutch injunction prohibits STM from selling certain microphones to any company other than Nokia for a limited period,” the statement read.

The company added once more that the ruling had no bearing on any existing purchases, “The judgment against STM states that HTC can continue to use microphones already purchased from STM in its products, because they were purchased in good-faith. Nokia's attempt to obtain a recall of microphones already sold to HTC failed.”
