HTC: Custom Bootloaders, Now Welcome
Makes it official on Facebook and Twitter
HTC has declared that they will no longer be locking bootloaders on their phones. This comes after a back and forth with modders, which resulted in phones like the Sensation, Desire S and Thunderbolt having their bootloaders being locked up tighter than gold at fort knox.![Quite literally]()

On HTC’s own Facebook page, CEO Peter Chou said, “There has been overwhelming customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience.

Although HTC has made the announcement, which will make a lot of people happy (check the twitter and facebook replies), it’s not clear as what happens to devices which have the bootloaders locked. Will HTC unlocked them for the general public or is the news only applicable to new devices.
