Google pulls plug off some more of its services

Google had, earlier this year decided to shut down some more of its services after they failed to meet the expectations. The plan was to shut down Google Labs, a collection of experimental services. Some of those services would find their way into existing services. This was being done to better utilize resources on their prominent, more popular services. Today,  Google has announced the closure of some more of their services. There are quite a few big ones on the hitlist. Google Wave, which was a collaboration tools of sort will face the axe in January, next year. The service has not seen development, since a year, but soon, it’ll be turned into a read-only service. Later in April 2012, the service will be entirely terminated. 

Focus on the prominent apps

The Google Friend Connect, which allowed sites to connect with their subscribers is also going be shut. Google is advising to those using the service to move to Google+, which should offer similar functionality. Google Gears, the offline web applications software will also be terminated. Google hoped to use Gears to offer some of their services without the need of an internet connection. Google Bookmarks Lists, Google Search Timeline and Knol, some of the less popular services will be shut as well. Google has invested money in cheaper and alternative energy sources.
