Google Pays $4.9 Million For Modu

According to calcalist, Google paid $4.9 milion for the entire Modu portfolio. That means all of the designs and patents that Modu owns is now in Google's bag. By the end of 2010, Modu was not doing too well and by February of 2011 the company had shut down as sales had slumped and the company sunk into debt. In recent months, employees sued Modu for nonpayment of salaries and it does look like the amount received by Modu will help it in repaying the debts as well as paying back the salaries.

Google, on the other hand, now has enough new toys to play with. Using Modu’s distinct styling and packing it in with an Android OS will sure yield some very interesting results. Modu already holds the record for the world’s lightest phone. Will Google do one better with the world’s lightest Android phone? It maybe a bit farfetched, but who knows, it could happen.
