Gionee's 5.5-inch Elife E7 with Snapdragon 800 coming to India in January

Gionee has announced a new flagship smartphone and successor to its Elife E6—the Elife E7. Sporting a large 5.5-inch full HD display, the E6 is a camera-centric smartphone with 16 megapixel snapper on the back and an 8 megapixel front-facing camera. Gionee also includes a host of camera functions to further spruce up the experience. The smartphone has been launched in China and will be available from December 5. Gionee plans a January launch for India.

The smartphone runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 with a layer of Gionee’s Amigo 2.0 UI. It brings in five ways to take photos, like voice control, normal, touch, smile and v-gesture. The improved imaging applications allow users to edit photos and alter colors, among other features. The app also has new auto makeup effects and intelligent scene recognition function. One will also find a Photo Album feature that automatically categorises photos by time, place, and more.  The footprint mode allows users to see a series of connected actions in one shot.

Elife E7 with 16MP camera

The smartphone will be available in two variants. The 4G-enabled variant is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor while the 3G version gets a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800. The RAM varies depending upon the onboard storage–16GB variant gets 2GB RAM and 32GB unit will come with 3GB RAM. Both variants get the Adreno 330 GPU.

All of this is fuelled by a non-removable 2,500mAh battery. The display gets the third generation Gorilla Glass treatment. One doesn’t need to reach the power button to wake up the screen. Users can do it by simply double tapping the screen or using the voice control function.

Gionee offers a slew of colourful options with the E7 such as black, white, blue, pink, green, yellow and orange. The 16GB variant is priced at 2,699 Yuan (approx. Rs 27,699) and 32GB at 3,199 Yuan (approx. Rs 32,730). Gionee also plans to launch an E7mini with a Mediatek octa-core chipset. However, the company isn't disclosing any specific time frame yet.
