Gionee is all set to announce its first Made in India smartphone today. The event will be held today evening in Visakhapatnam, in the presence of William Lu, President, Gionee and India chief Arvind Vohra. Gionee's first Made in India smartphone will be unveiled in presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.Last week, at the launch of the Elife E8, Vohra had announced the Made in India plans. "Before Diwali we will have a product manufactured out of India,” he told Firstpost.Gionee plans to set up two assembling units in India before Diwali and will initially start off with making feature smartphones from the F and M series.The investment would initially concentrate on improving the assembly lines. Vohra said, “We will first start off with just assembling and later on depending on how the eco-system pans out we will put in more money.
