Gartner has predicted that device shipment will remain flat across the world in 2017

Gartner has published a new report predicting that the device shipments of PCs, tablets, mobile phones and Ultramobiles will remain flat in 2017. The analyst firm projected the total shipment of devices in 2017 to be 2.3 billion, same as the shipment of devices in 2016. The overall increase in the number of devices in the world by the end of 2017 will be negligible with a marginal increase in the number of mobile phones and ultramobile.Ranjit Atwal, research director at Gartner, adds, "The global devices market is stagnating. Mobile phone shipments are only growing in emerging Asia/Pacific markets, and the PC market is just reaching the bottom of its decline. As well as declining shipment growth for traditional devices, average selling prices are also beginning to stagnate because of market saturation and a slower rate of innovation."According to the report detailing projection of some device shipments till 2019, the number of Traditional PCs (Notebooks and desk-based devices) will steadily decline from 219 million in 2016 to 193 million in 2019.

Ultramobiles will increase from 49 million in 2016 to 61 million in 2017 to finally reach 85 million in 2019. Consolidating the numbers, the PC Market shipment will marginally increase from 268 million in 2016 to 278 million in 2019. One interesting thing to note is that the figure will go down to 266 million in 2017.The number of basic and utility Ultramobiles will stay almost flat with 166 million units in 2019 from the current 168 million in 2016. Computing devices like head mounted displays or virtual personal assistant will from marginally from 436 million devices in 2016 to 444 million devices in 2019.Mobile devices, on the other hand, will come from 1,888 million in 2016 till 1,937 million in 2019.Adding all the different device types, the total number of devices will stay identical in 2017 from the current 2,324 million devices in 2016. The number will increase slightly to reach 2,380 million in 2019.
