Former Facebook employee sues the company for sexual and racial discrimination

Chiang Hong, a former Facebook employee has sued the company for several claims including sexual and racial discrimination.Hong, who worked for Facebook from June 2010 to October 2013, claims she faced discrimination, harassment and retaliation and was eventually fired, according to The New York Times. The reason for the discrimination is being alleged as Hong's being a woman and of Taiwanese descent, adds the report.The lawsuit is filed at state court in San Mateo County, wherein Hong claimed she was 'belittled' at work and even asked 'why doesn't she stay at home and take care of her children'. Hong was reportedly asked to “organize parties and serve drinks to male colleagues,” which wasn't a part of her job description.In spite of her 'satisfactory' performance, she was finally fired from Facebook in October 2013. She is represented by Lawless and Lawless firm, which is also representing Ellen Pao's gender discrimination case against Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.Facebook has refuted the allegations and in a statement to Re/code, the company spokesperson said, "We work extremely hard on issues related to diversity, gender and equality, and we believe we’ve made progress. In this case we have substantive disagreements on the facts, and we believe the record shows the employee was treated fairly.”
