Facebook rolls out new login feature to all mobile apps

Facebook is rolling out the new Facebook login feature, a revamped version of the feature formerly called Facebook Connect, to all mobile apps right now. The improved mobile login feature will now ask your permission separately in order to avoid applications from spamming your Timeline.

Facebook in April had said that it is going to improve the mobile login experience, which will include a better way of apps requiring permission, so that users understand exactly what is going on. It is no surprise that mobile users prefer turning to Facebook login to register themselves on applications. In fact, 81 of the top 100 grossing iOS apps and 62 of the top 100 Android apps in the US currently use Facebook login.

Separating login from permissions

It’s a fine way to be able to log into the dozens of applications you use on your smartphones everyday without the need to remember dozens of passwords and login credentials associated with them. All you need to do is hit the “Login with Facebook” button and you’re done. This earlier meant that you had to grant permission to the application to let it post on your Facebook Timeline on your behalf. Facebook has now separated the login and posting feature in a way that apps will need to seek your permission separately before posting to your Timeline.

“Don’t want to share your music playlist or workout routine with friends? You can choose to skip sharing altogether. Clearly separating sharing means people can decide whether they only want to use Facebook Login for fast registration without also sharing back to Facebook. If you want to share later, you still can,” reads a Facebook post announcing the roll out.

Additionally, Facebook has made sure the login page now loads up to 31 percent faster on mobile so you can access applications a lot faster than before. The social networking giant is working directly with mobile applications to be able to create a better login experience. This newer, faster update to login will better users’ experience of third-party applications. It also unburdens Facebook from the accusations that it is lax with user security on the mobile front.
