Facebook has launched a hub of 360 degree content, which is available only for the Oculus powered Samsung Gear VR. The Facebook 360 app is a collection of 360 degree videos and photos uploaded on Facebook, and allows users to explore the content in a more immersive manner. Facebook says there are over twenty five million 360 degree photos and one million 360 degree videos already uploaded on the site by its users. The free app is available on the Oculus site.[caption id="attachment_366165" align="aligncenter" width="640"]The login screen of the Facebook 360 app. The login screen of the Facebook 360 app.[/caption]At launch, the content is sorted into four feeds. Explore is the most popular and interesting content from media companies, organisations, and individuals. Following collects content from your friends and the pages that you have followed. Saved is a feed for all the 360 degree content that users have saved from the news feed for exploring later. Finally, the Timeline feed has the 360 degree photos and videos uploaded to Facebook by the users themselves.[caption id="attachment_366166" align="aligncenter" width="640"]facebook-360-title-card The title card for additional information about a video or photo.[/caption]There is a UI that can be navigated through a gamepad or a touchpad. While viewing the content, each video or photo can be shared, liked, saved or hidden. Users can pull up additional information about a photo or a video, and react to the content as well. Facebook has indicated that additional social features are making their way to the Facebook 360 app, and that the experience will be available on more platforms soon.
