Evernote to migrate onto Google's cloud platform

The latest announcement from Evernote has releaved its plans to migrate the entire infrastructure onto Google's cloud platform. With this move, Google is believed to be making a headway when competing with the likes of Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.In a blogpost, Ben McCormack, VP Operation, states that,"In reviewing our options, the benefits of adopting a modern cloud solution for our data quickly became clear. After an intensive period of research and investigation involving several cloud providers, we have selected Google Cloud Platform to provide our data infrastructure moving forward."Until now, Evernote has owned, configured and maintained its own servers and networks. This enabled Evernote to build it the way they want, but it is also expensive to maintain, slow to upgrade and difficult to scale, according to the company.Now, with Google Cloud platform, Evernote aims at significant improvements in terms of performance, security, efficiency and also scalability.  "Moving to the cloud also allows us to focus time and resources on the things that matter most. For us, that means building the best home for your notes and giving you the tools to use them more effectively. It’s the right choice," McCormack writes further.Evernote has begun working with Google to finalize the infrastructure and the syncing of data is said to start by October. The complete migration is expected by the end of this year. This transition is completely in the background, and so, shouldn't affect users. Evernote also promises security of user data. With this move, Evernote will be joining brands including Spotify, Snapchat, Coca-Cola and Philips that already rely on Google Cloud Platform.
