CES 2014: Toshiba 4K laptops Tecra W50 and Satellite P50t announced

At the International CES, Toshiba announced two models of 4K laptops namely the Toshiba Tecra W50 and Satellite P50t; both will likely hit stores by mid-2014.While the Tecra W50 is targetted at professional users and graphic designers who want a mobile workstation, the Satellite P50t addresses consumers who are keen on watching 4K movies. Both the Tecra W50 and the Satellite P50t have a 15.6-inch screen size with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 with a pixel density of 282 PPI. This will help provide rich visual experience for  graphics-heavy applications for professionals, said Shawn Worsell, product line manager for the Quadro Professional Solutions Business at NVIDIA. Thanks to the Quadro graphics solution, the Tecra W50 mobile workstation will be optimised to work with applications such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Despite the high-end internals, it weighs under 2.7kg.The only other technical detail revealed is that the Satellite P50t will house a fourth generation Haswell-based Intel Core processor but Toshiba did not mention the exact model number. Naturally the operating system coming bundled with the P50t will be Windows 8.1. The ultra HD 4K display of the Satellite P50t will also feature an edge-to-edge glass design.Both the laptops will be available for sale in mid-2014 according to Toshiba. Pricing details were not announced, but expect them to be at stratospheric levels.
