Capcom announces Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set

In January this year, Capcom talked about some big plans for Street Fighter’s upcoming 25th anniversary. Following this, the company has finally announced its plans for the franchise on their blog. The plans include a massive collector’s edition set packed with a great deal of Street Fighter legacy, and a worldwide tournament that Capcom is backing with half a million dollars of prizing and amenities.

The collector’s edition set is a bit on the steep side, costing $150, but it would be well worth the price for a fan of the series. The pack is filled with goodies, including four games, an 11-disc soundtrack, an eight-inch light-up statue of the series’ mascot – Ryu, and a replica of the character’s iconic martial arts black belt, among other things.

Other goodies are an 11-disk soundtrack from the past 25 years, including remixes and fan-created music, in addition to Ryu’s belt, a full size martial arts black belt of the World Warrior, includes Ryu’s “Furinkazan” in Kanji.

That list does not count the extra goodies that Capcom is including in the PlayStation 3 version of the Collector’s Set. The extra goodies for the PS3, announced during Capcom’s panel in this year’s Comic-Con, include download codes for all three Street Fighter Alpha games as PSOne classics, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max for the PSP, all the DLC for Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition, and 175 PlayStation Network avatars.

Street Fighter has been one of the most popular games in its genre. Though the fighting game genre has, at best, a niche appeal in India, the genre thrives in other countries like Japan where they have fighting game tournaments very often. The biggest fighting game tournament in the world just finished now, known as Evo 2012.

Capcom’s other plans for the 25th anniversary of their popular fighting game franchise includes a worldwide tournament between July and December this year.
