BlackBerry 9720 with BB 7, QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen launched

BlackBerry today launched a new smartphone which runs on its older BB 7 operating system. The new phone, which is called the BlackBerry 9720 comes with a QWERTY keyboard and according to the company press release, it will be available in Asia, Middle East and Latin America in the coming weeks.

Key features of the smartphone include: 2.8-inch diagonal screen with 4:3 aspect ratio. The screen resolution is 480 x 360 resolution (HVGA) which comes at 214 ppi. The screen is touchscreen as well.

The smartphone has an optical trackpad and a 35-key, backlit, narrow QWERTY keyboard. It comes with 512 MB RAM and a removable microSD memory card-slot with up to 32 GB as limit.

It has a 1450mAH removable battery with up to 7 hours talk time and up to 18 days standby time. It has a 5 megapixel with EDOF (Extended Depth of Field) Flash, continuous Image stabilisation and 4X digital zoom.

The phone supports WiFi, HSPA for High-Speed Internet, EDGE support for 2G, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS. It also has a Proximity sensor and Ambient light sensor.

The smartphone runs BlackBerry 7 which features an updated interface that lets users swipe to unlock the phone or access the camera from the lock screen, as well as additional enhancements.

The phone is available in Black, White, Pure Pink, Blue and Purple colours. This is likely to be competitor to entry level Android and Windows Phones.
