Asus ZenFone 5 series landing on 27 February at the Mobile World Congress 2018; invites have been sent out

While the grand mela of smartphones — the Mobile World Congress 2018 — is still close to a month away, the invitations for smartphone launches have started trickling in. Taiwanese components and smartphone maker Asus will be launching its ZenFone 5 series at MWC 2018 on 27 February.[caption id="attachment_4330075" align="alignleft" width="380"]

Asus ZenFone 5 launch invite[/caption]Asus has started sending out invites to the media. The invite simply has a graphical 5 painted across with the words 'We love photo' and 'Unveil' along with the date. The launch is expected to take place in Barcelona and the phones will be on display for the entire duration of MWC.According to GSMArena, the event is expected to take place at 7:30 pm CET which will be 12 am on 28 February according to IST. CEO Jerry Chen, GM of mobile business division Bryan Chang and global marketing head of system business group Marcel Campos will be present at the announcement.We generally see the ZenFone lineup being announced at Computex, which happens in the first week of June every year. This time around, Asus has decided to launch its next ZenFone series earlier.

No information regarding the smartphones expected to be launched is out yet. The only details known are that two of the smartphones to be launched would be named the Asus ZenFone 5 Lite and the Asus ZenFone 5 Max.Recently, a report was out stating that the ZenFone 5 Max has received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance. The device is reported to run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box along with support for Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. The timeline of the certification approval is in line with the plans by Asus to unveil the line-up in March 2018.
